WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE THREE TYPES OF MBA OFFERED AT IBS?
The three types of MBA offered at IBS are MBA Techno-entrepreneurship, MBA Strategic Management and MBA Venture Capital Management.

The MBA Venture Capital Management was introduced in 2000 designed for students who wish to set up businesses or managing Intellectual Property (IP) organizations such as dotcom companies and biotechnology manufacturing firms, structured with capital from venture capitalists instead of conventional sources of fund. Such a capital structure implies a different form of equity ownership and management arrangement.

The MBA Strategic Management is designed for managers who are in the corporate division of a company given the responsibility to initiate strategic planning for the organization. This MBA is also relevant for the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of companies of any size, who want to develop strategic thinking and gain insight into the arts of strategy at the corporate, business and operational levels.

The MBA Techno-entrepreneurship is specifically designed for someone who wants to have a broader view of managing organizations. This can be accomplished by taking electives at the end of the program. Proper choice of electives will allow students of Techno-entrepreneurship to broaden their knowledge, for instance in Strategic Management with added knowledge in Tax and Business Strategy, or even on how to evaluate organizations for purposes of acquisitions and mergers.

IS MY MBA VALID FOR ME TO GET A JOB AND TO FURTHER MY STUDIES OUTSIDE MALAYSIA?
We are not sure if you can get a job outside Malaysia if you have an MBA. It will depend very much on your performance at the job interview. But if you want to further your study, the MBA from IBS UTM is accepted by most universities overseas, because the degree is awarded by a public university in Malaysia.

I'M A FRESH GRADUATE AND HAVE NO WORKING EXPERIENCE. AM I QUALIFIED TO JOIN YOUR MBA?
Yes if you have a first-class honors first degree. But most of our students have a minimum of 2 years working experience. Our students are quite mature, 35 years old on the average. Fresh graduates would have little to contribute especially in group discussion and assignment, and will find it difficult to follow group activities.

HOW MANY INTAKES ARE THERE IN ONE YEAR?
We have two intakes a year; one in February and another in September

CAN I TRANSFER MY CREDITS?
Transfer of credits is allowed but students have to first apply once they have gained admission into the program.

WHAT IS THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT?
Students must have a good command of English because the program is conducted in English. Foreign students must achieve a TOEFL score of 550 or EILST with Band 6. Without either one, they have to sit for an English language test conducted by the Graduate School . If they do not make the grade in the test, they will be required to attend a six-month English class prior to attending the MBA program proper.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE WHOLE PROGRAMME?
Generally, part-time students can complete the program in 2 years while full-time students can do it in one year and half.

HOW ARE THE CLASSES BEING SCHEDULED?
Almost all classes are conducted on the weekends. Depending on the number of courses taken, classes start at 9 am in the morning to 10 pm at night. Some classes, however, end at 5 pm in the evening. Classes are not conducted on major public holidays in Kuala Lumpur .

HOW ARE THE STUDENTS BEING ASSESSED IN EACH COURSE?
Students are assessed by different criteria, including individual and group assignments, examinations, class presentations and participations. The purpose of assessments is to determine students' intelligence and ability to apply what they learn in class, instead of their ability to memorize concepts. Furthermore, since all students are practically experienced managers, their ability to match their experience and academic concepts, is much being assessed rather than their ability to learn the concepts without knowing how to apply them in work situations.

WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
To be eligible for the MBA program, an applicant must have a first degree honors with a minimum of 2 years relevant working experience

IS THERE ANY FINANCIAL AID?
At the moment, IBS does not provide any financial aid.

I HAVE A DIPLOMA AND A FEW YEARS OF WORKING EXPERIENCE. CAN I APPLY FOR YOUR MBA?
Based on our minimum entry requirement, a diploma does not qualify as a sufficient entry requirement for the MBA, unless it is a post-graduate diploma or selected professional qualifications accepted by the Public Service Department (JPA) as being equivalent to a first degree.

CAN I DEFER OR POSTPONE MY STUDIES ONCE I'VE BEEN ENROLLED INTO THE PROGRAMME?
Once a student has been accepted into the program, he can apply to defer his study for a maximum period of one year, beyond which he can reapply.
